TikTok Banner Splitter

A TikTok banner is three video covers that line up across the top row of your profile grid. Drop a wide image into the splitter above and it cuts three panels shaped for the profile tile, ready to set as covers on three pinned videos.

TikTok has no banner upload. What people call a TikTok banner is a trick: three videos pinned to the top of a profile, each with a cover image that is one third of a wider picture. Seen in the grid, the three covers read as one banner across the top.

That makes the shape of a profile tile the thing to design around. TikTok video covers are prepared at the full 1080 × 1920 px frame of the video, and the profile grid shows a centre crop of that cover at 3:4. So the part of your banner that appears in the grid is the middle of each cover, not the whole thing.

This preset cuts three panels at the profile tile shape, so what you see in the preview is what shows in the grid. When you set each panel as a cover in the app, you are placing it inside the taller video frame, and TikTok crops back to the tile shape from the centre. Keeping the artwork centred is what makes the two crops agree.

Two more things TikTok does to a cover. The first line of your caption is drawn over the bottom of it in the grid, so keep the lower part of each panel clear of anything you need read. And the tile only stays in place while the three videos are pinned, so pin them and leave them pinned.

What this split is used for

Banner across three pinned videos

Cut a wide design into three panels and set each as the cover of a video, then pin all three. The grid shows them as one banner across the top row. Pin them in the right order, because unpinning and re-pinning is the only way to rearrange them.

Name or handle across the top row

Splitting a wordmark across three tiles is the most common version of this. Keep the letters centred vertically in each panel, since the grid crops the cover from the centre and the first line of your caption is drawn over the bottom of each tile.

Channel sections or a menu

Three panels can label three pinned videos: an intro, a playlist, a link. Design each panel so it also works alone, because people who reach a video from the feed see the cover on its own rather than as part of a row.

Refresh a profile without new video

Because the banner lives in the covers rather than the videos, you can change it without posting anything. Split a new design into three, replace the covers on the same three pinned videos, and the top of the profile changes while the content stays put.

Tips

  • Keep artwork centred in each panel, because the profile grid crops covers from the centre to 3:4.
  • Leave the lower part of each panel clear; the first line of your caption is drawn over it in the grid.
  • Pin all three videos and leave them pinned, or the banner falls apart as you post.
  • Design each panel so it still works on its own, since covers are also seen one at a time.
  • Export PNG when the banner is built from type, so letter edges stay clean.

Frequently asked questions

What is a TikTok banner?

It is not an upload slot. It is three pinned videos whose cover images are three panels of one wider picture, so the top row of your profile grid reads as a single banner. Splitting the picture into three correctly shaped panels is the whole job.

How do I make a TikTok banner?

Split a wide image into three panels here, then set each panel as the cover of one of three videos in the app and pin all three. The panels appear as one row across the top of your profile. Pin them in the order you want them displayed.

What size should each TikTok banner panel be?

Design to the profile tile shape, 1080 × 1440 px, which is what this preset cuts. When you set a cover in the app you are choosing a frame from the 1080 × 1920 px video, and the grid crops that back to the tile shape from the centre.

Why is my TikTok cover cropped on my profile?

The profile grid shows a centre crop of the cover rather than the whole thing, so the top and bottom of a full-height cover are hidden in the grid view. Keeping your artwork centred means the part that survives the crop is the part you designed.

Will my TikTok banner stay in place when I post?

Yes, as long as the three videos stay pinned. Pinned videos hold the top row of the grid regardless of what you publish afterwards. Unpin one and it drops back into date order, which breaks the banner until you pin it again.

Can I split a banner into more than three panels?

A TikTok profile grid is three columns wide, so three panels is what fills a row. Six panels fills two rows, but only three videos can be pinned, so the second row moves as you post. Three pinned covers is the arrangement that stays put.
